The City of Edmonton, capital of Alberta, is located on the Trans Canada Highway and Highway #2. Edmonton is situated on the North Saskatchewan River and is near the geographical center of the province. Edmonton is commonly referred to as the “Gateway to the North” due to its strategic position on the economic divide between the productive farmlands of central Alberta and a vast, resource-rich north hinterland.

SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS

The most prominent characteristic in the city may be the North Saskatchewan River Valley. There are over 150 km of trails, 22 parks and numerous lakes. It contains a number of educational and recreational centres, offering visitors a fascinating glimpse of the city's heritage growth and interests. This area is known as the “River Valley Parks”.


Edmonton is host to numerous annual festivals including the International Jazz Festival, the Children’s Festival in June, Capital Ex, Edmonton International Street Performers and Taste of Edmonton, in July, Dragon Boat Festival in August, and the Santa Claus Parade in December.
