The community of Mill Bay is located on Highway #1, approximately 19 km southeast of Duncan and 40 km north of Victoria. Mill Bay is situated on the southeast shore of Vancouver Island, in the Cowichan Valley and is part of the Cowichan Valley Regional District.
Mill Bay and the surrounding area are home to dairy farmers, loggers and millers. Service personnel run the many business establishments, who cater to vacationers.
The population of Cowichan Regional District numbers approximately 76,929. The population of Mill Bay numbers approximately 3,250.
